I feel like a grumpy child tonight. I just want to scrub my fists over my eyes and stamp my feet. I also was almost reduced to tears trying to decide between pizza and chicken for dinner tonight. Yes my friends, PMS is a bitch. This is the worst I've had it in a LONG time. Doesn't help that I'm super swamped at work and haven't had nearly enough sleep yesterday. Right now I'm trying to sit quietly and not snap at my poor roommate who has done absolutely NOTHING but is still managing to annoy me. :) At least I recognize that I'm being unreasonable. Here's hoping tomorrow will be better!

Subject:Home from camp

I am home from a great week at camp. :) I went off to Girl Guide camp for a week last week and had a blast - hanging out on the Sunshine Coast in the sun, sitting on the beach, hiking. Does it get any better. Oh yeah, there were 150 kids there too. :D It was WORK, no doubt about it - I'm STILL catching up on my sleep, and I came home with a cold, but it really was a good time. Now it's back to work.

I love fall, it makes me feel like going back to school, seeing all the school supplies in the stores and the fall clothes coming out. I love school supplies. I keep wanting to buy more notebooks and pens and binders, but I really don't need any more.

If anyone out there knows anyone who is looking for a GREAT volunteer opportunity please let me know. Guides has a volunteer position open on it's council (chairing a committee) and it's a great way to get some really great experience, meet a lot of people, have some fun and it looks great on a resume. :D

I've been on the road for the past few days and yesterday had a GREAT lunch in a restaurant - it was a chicken stir fry with TONS of flavour. I was concerned that that meant high fat/calorie sauces so I asked the chef and he said he had made it with oyster sauce - totally yummy and surprisingly low in fat/calories. Worth checking out.

I'm back from another trip. This time it was business in Calgary. I drove by the zoo, and thought of Ms. Tammytoes, then I went to Wallmart (it was across from my hotel) and thought of Ms. Tammytoes. :) We were staying out of town (about 30 minutes from downtown) so I didn't get to explore much, which was unfortunate, but it was a good trip. Made some good connections and actually came out of the meetings feeling like we accomplished something, which doesn't always happen. I just hope we can keep up our momentum.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends! I hope everyone has a great long weekend. :)

Subject:diving into communities

The lovely ms. Tammytoes was talking about lj communities in her journal so I decided to dive in. I went on a hunt and joined three communities that interseted me. Today, after looking through recent posts in those communities I decided I wanted to start my own. :) It's a "low fat cooking" and "cooking with points" community. I am always on the hunt for yummy low-fat recipes so decided to start a page where users with an interest in cooking can come visit and post tips and tricks and new recipes to try. I'm hoping it will grow into a fun community for sharing. Of course, as I've just started it, I am the only member. So if you're interested in low-fat cooking and want to come check it out please do! Once again I'm at home procrastinating over going to the gym. I don't know why I'm not into it lately, I really need to get off my butt and just GO. I'm weird - I love it once I'm there and feel great afterwards, but the getting up, gathering my gear and going is the hardest part. What is wrong with me? I need to find a way to kick start my motivation, when I'm in a motivated frame of mind I can push through the hardest workouts, I just need to get back there again.

I think I'm allergic to MSG. I had some food today that I'm pretty sure had MSG and I've been feeling off since - I feel itchy, yet I'm not itchy, also anxious and out of sorts. It could just be a mood but I've been feeling this ever since I ate the food. Yuck.

and my quads are still feeling the workout. Swimming helps a bit though. I can't WAIT for Kits pool to open this weekend. :D I'm going to hit it on Monday and buy a pass. I wonder how cold it'll be? I've never gone before late June before. The best thing about swimming in the kits pool is you can smell everyone BBQing on the beach while you're swimming - I love summer smells.

Now if I could just motivate myself to hit the bike I'd be doing pretty well. I'm nervous about my first race this year - I've never done an open water swim before. I need to hit the lake and do some practice swims there, it's pretty far out there but maybe I can convince Peyton or Susan to go with me this weekend and check it out. I feel a lot better when I can visulize the course in my head before race day.

I hope this sun keeps up! It's WAY more motivating to go out and cycle when it's sunny. And to run outside (although I don't mind running in the rain so much). I love swimming in the rain though.

Susan and I went to register for the Stanley Park mini triathlon the other day and it's already full. :( So we'll have to make our first go a sprint length. They have another one that's sprint lenght in Stanley park later in the season so we'll probably do that one, as well as the Abbotsford and UBC sprints. I think 3 will be my total this year, unless I find another one that I can't resist. Next year it's going to be all about the olympic length. Providing I can improve my times that is!

Susan did the 1/2 marathon on the weekend! She's been training forever and doing SO well. She took today off so I haven't heard how it went...I can't wait to hear. She's going to be super speedy on the runs now!

Peyton is still training but is starting a new business so her time is limited...we're trying to get 2 workouts together a week, but the rest of the time we're on our own.

I'm back at the pool tomorrow so that'll be fun. I love the swims.

I've been "assigned" the letter R by Scottish Beauty

1) Running: I've recently started training for triathlon. I did my first one last year and loved it - since then running has become a part of my life. I used to hate it and now it's my favourite component.

2) Ride: Ditto for above. Riding my bike has become something I do frequently, either at the gym or outside. For some reason I have a hard time motivating myself to do it on the road, but once I start I love it.

3) Rain: Rain makes me think of Vancouver - even if it doesn't rain here as much as people say it does. I love Vancouver so thinking about rain brings a smile to my face. I also love cozy raining days when I can curl up and read a good book or watch movies. It makes me think of fall days, and Thanksgiving. As much as I love the sun, I do enjoy the rain.

4) Routine: Popped into my head because I keep hearing about the routine my new niece is getting into with her days. :)

5) Resources: I'm a training coordinator for Vancouver Girl Guide - so I have a million resources that I love to refer to. Resources on camping, training styles, facilitation, games, songs, crafts, adult learning, etc. etc. I LOVE resources. I'm a collector. I have decorating resources, recipes, etc. etc.

6) Roulette: For my 30th birthday I went to Vegas for a long weekend. It was great. HOT HOT HOT but we wandered the big hotels, did some shopping and of course some gambling. Out of all the games I tried roulette was my favourite. It was great to get into the spirit of it.

7) Recycle: Something that is becomming more and more important to me. I'm a green rep. in our office and I've learned tons about recycling and greening than I knew before. It's become a passion and I'm much more focused on recycling than I used to be.

8) Roses: Not my favourite cut flower, but I love a beautiful rose bush or tree in a yard - so many varieties and they smell soooo good when you grow them yourself.

9) Read: One of my very favourite things to do. I love a good book, and no matter how many I have on my shelf (that I haven't read yet) I'm always adding more. I love browsing a used book store and picking out a couple to take home and curl up with. I have a book club that I belong to and it's great fun.

10) Rich: This makes me think of so many things. Family, friends, chocolate, coffee, dessert. :)

I woke up today not at ALL motivated to work out....I sat in the living room in my pajama's contemplating it for awhile, part of me wanting to say forget it and relax after being out all day yesterday and part of me wanting to get my butt in gear and get out there. Finally a dream I had last night (more on that later ;)) spurred me to the gym. I did an hour of cardio and then went over to Peyton's for a swim in the pool. It felt good - I did a lot of work on my arms and my kick so I'll be feeling those tomorrow.

Still no bike though...I REALLY have to get our there and do that this week.

I love long weekends - no nice to have the time to relax. Spent the time with my family - my nieces are soooo cute, especially little chloe. I just want to pick her up and hug her all the time.

Of coures Easter means chocolate and I had my share of that, but I'm back on track for the week so all will be well I hope. Next weekend won't be quite as relaxing - I have a full day of camp skills with the girls which is always a lot of work. I'm looking forward to the Guide year being over...end of May and meetings are over and then it's just Victoria and we're done - I can't wait to be done for the summer! Then one more year on council and I'm done my appointment. yay!

So far so good! I told myself I was going to watch what I ate today and NOT indulge in any crap, and so far it's been good! I left my purse in the office when I walked with a friend to grab coffee so I wouldn't be tempted to buy any yummy banana bread or fat filled banana nut muffins...then at lunch I met a friend and had tea while he ate (I had my lunch at the office). Went to the gym after work and now I'm home. My biggest challenge today was that I made a yummy apple pie yesterday and more than half of it is currently in the fridge. Argh. So I ate a tiny piece (less than half a regular piece) and am telling myself I must be satisfied with that. Dinner soon and then I'm off again.

Just finished watching "Walk the Line". I don't know a lot about Johnny Cash or June Carter but the movie was really good - better than I expected and I had high hopes going in. I have a feeling I'll be walking around singing "times awaistin'" for the next few days though. :) I can see why Reece Witherspoon won best actress and why Jonquin Pheonix was nominated...I didn't see the movie of the guy who won so can't compare there, but both he and Reece were really good.

work was so crazy today. My desk looked like a disaster when I left and I hate leaving it like that. I would have liked to stay late and put it in order but I'm off to a training tonight so I coudn't. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little quieter.

I punctured my toe and it hurts right now. I was moving a speaker stand that has these little spikes on the bottom to anchor it and when I put it down I put one of the little spikes right on my toe. I hurts like hell. :(

I have NO willpower whatsoever. If I have a bankcard or credit card in my wallet I'll go out and buy lunch, no matter what I tell myself I'm going to do. today I went to Arby's. Yuck. And you know what? It's not even good. blah.

Subject:Blast from the Past

After getting a card from an old High School friend yesterday I came home to a message on my answering machine from a friend who was one of my co-Guiders a couple of years ago. She left the unit after her father passed away and we fell out of touch until we ran into each other crossing the street in opposite directions a few months ago. She mentioned in her message that she'd been thinking about me since that time and would love to get together to catch up. It's so great to hear from her - I'd thought of her since seeing her that day also and it will be nice to sit and chat - I'd missed working with her. :) So that's two faces reappearing.

Today I cleared my work e-mail down to 80 outstanding - I had over 300 so that felt pretty good! I also responded to some friendly e-mails that I'd had sitting in my in-box because I was too busy to respond. Feels good to have that cleared. Now to tackle my desk! I was going to stay late tonight and do it but it's such a beautiful day that I couldn't bear to stay in my office and work (even if I do have a lovely view). so I didn't.

I didn't go to the gym today and I meant to. I DID go to a tri site and find the next race I want to do - It's on July 22nd so maybe this will give me the kick of motivation that I need! I really need to get through one day of eating well, exercising and drinking all my water - to get back on that routine. Why is that always so hard to do? I'm looking forwad to the Weight Watcher group being opened in my office, I really like the program and am excited to start. BUT I can't wait for it to open to get going - I've motivated myself before and know that I can do it again, I just need to wrap my head around it. ARGHHHHH!!!!

Off to put some fertilizer in my planters to get them ready for planting in May.

It's been months since my last entry on this site - I had gotten out of the habit of logging into a computer at home (likely not a bad one!) But do want to catch up with those I haven't chatted with in ages.

Won't go into great detail of hte past many months (it would take far to long) so will start from here.

It's almost tri season again and after having finished the sprint last year I'm more determined than ever to do more this year. It's an amazing feeling challenging yourself and I like it. The athletes I met at the race were wonderful and incredibly supportive for a "newbie" and the nice thing about tri is that you're competing against yourself - at least at the rec level. I haven't been doing enough training lately but am getting back into it slowly and with enthusiasm. My goal is a June sprint length with an open water swim. Will be using my journal to log my progress, feelings, etc. as I train.

Volunteer life is good, but busy. I'm getting better (although not quite good enough) at saying "no" and am trying to focus on the things that I enjoy most. The best experience to date is learning a lot of about REALLY working in a team and making a team work. It's spilled over into other areas of my life and I'm grateful for that.
